To make limewater for testing for the presence of carbon dioxide, dissolve 25 grams of calcium hydroxide in one liter of freshly boiled distilled water. Shake well and allow to sit until solution is completely clear (not cloudy). Smaller volumes of solution can be made if less is needed by keeping these proportions. There will be undissolved solid at the bottom of the bottle. For use, decant off the liquid but leave the sediment behind.
